A royal project for Gateley Smithers Purslow

Gateley Smithers Purslow is very proud to have supported with the planning approval, technical design and project management of a statue erected in memory of Queen Elizabeth II in Oakham, Rutland.

Unveiled during a public ceremony on Sunday 21 April 2024, marking what would have been the late Queen’s 98th birthday, the 7ft bronze monument is thought to be the first permanent memorial to England’s longest reigning monarch.

Sculptor, Hywel Pratley created the statue commissioned by the Lord Lieutenant of Rutland, Dr Sarah Furness. The base was constructed by Palmers of Oakham, with the limestone supplied by Goldholme Stone.

Ian Lapsley, technical director and architecture and planning manager at Gateley Smithers Purslow, commented: “It has been a real honour to support and provide services for this project. With a head office in Rutland, we were well-placed to provide expertise and utilise our local industry contacts to contribute to the successful erection of the memorial statue.

“As well as providing planning and technical design support, our team also had input into the overall design by suggesting the addition of the seat for the Corgis. As soon as the tribute was unveiled, the children attending the ceremony took turns to sit alongside the late Queen’s beloved companions which really emphasised the community spirit at the heart of this project.”
